Photos of “Runge tiles”

The Germans who lived in Izabielin were engaged in the production of roof tiles. Formerly, many roofs were covered with it. Today, you can still find this “Runge” roof tiles. Izabielin is atmospheric when you look into the wild bushes and walk through the backyards overgrown with grapes and currants. When you touch the old brick surface that has felt over the last century, or for even longer, all these cold rains, snows, burning sun… That heard and saw a lot. We even received unexpectedly one tile from an Izabielin roof as a gift from a local resident, who also told us about the underground passage near the synagogue. And a descendant of those Germans, now a local historian, talks about his childhood memories – see the video notes. As for the manufactory itself, there is nothing left of it in the Runge’s farmstead near Izabielin.
